Going the extra mile

Napoleon Hill’s principle of going the extra mile is more important today than ever. Living in a world where people are looking to do everything faster and find shortcuts to success, some things never change. You have to go the extra mile in every aspect of your life if you truly want massive results. One truth that will never change will be Abraham Lincoln’s statement “Good things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle”. In the video below, social media boss and relentless hustler, Gary Vaynerchuk shares how one is greater than zero. Have a look and think….am I doing whatever it takes to get my goals?

It is always to soon. Meeting Seth Godin.

dDSDDDLast week I had the pleasure of listening to the greatest marketing mind of the last 20 years, Seth Godin. His keynote was mind expanding. It is the end of the industrial revolution. No longer are we confined to the workforce. Now is our time to step up and create something amazing. Seth said the majority of people are waiting for the right time. It is always too soon. If not now when? In 2 years….when someone else has profited from our idea. In the late 90′s Seth missed out on the opportunity to create what is today Yahoo because he over analysed it. It is always to soon. Take action. Make it amazing.

Iron Sharpers Iron

iron_sharpens_iron_9 (1)‘Iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another’. This is one of the most underestimated statements of all time. It comes from Proverbs 27:17. Whether you are spiritually inclined or not, this concept can enhance your life beyond measure. Last night, I was feeling a bit flat after a big day at work however had to go straight from work to one of our Monday business sessions. Before the session started I had planned to catch up with one of my team to make some calls and lock in some appointments. I didn’t feel like it. I was sitting in a bit of complacency and a bit of fear. The guy I was with started belting out his calls and talking positive affirmations and within 5 minutes I was into it and booking appointments. There is something special about the power of association. Author Napoleon Hill puts a huge amount of emphasis on “The Mastermind”. A group of people with a definite chief aim. A common purpose. Iron sharpers iron. Surround yourself with good people. Ambitious people who make you stretch and grow. That I believe has been one of the main keys to us staying focused and progressing this past few years!

Creating a sense of Urgency

Consequences

Living in Australia where people are notorious for their laid back attitudes and approach to life, it has been an interesting experience over the last 2 years of talking to people about the idea of getting into business for themselves and having a crack at creating a better quality of life for themselves. Since working inside a business structure where performance = results, it has been fascinating to see what gets people to step up and alternatively, what causes them to drop off. One of the clearest ways I have seen this in action comes down to one thing and one thing only. Whether or not someone has a sense of urgency about achieving their goal. Personally, this is something I have to work on every day to drive myself forward. Clarity and a sense of urgency. Without these things I can easily watch 3 weeks, 4 weeks and even months slip by without running for a goal. Procastination creeps in and BANG, it’s January 2015 and I am kicking myself. Not anymore. This changed once urgency entered the game One of the best ways to create a sense of urgency is to think of the consequences of doing nothing. If nothing changes, nothing changes.
